Looking to make measurement in accordance with ASTM-D257 & IEC 60093/ IEC 62631-3 Standards?
IEC 60993 and ASTM D-257 cover test methods for the measurement of volume resistivity and surface resistivity of insulating materials. This test method is applicable for resistivity measurements generally above 107 Ω-cm or 107 Ω (per square)to 10 13 Ω. This testing is performed to ensure the material meets the required minimum and maximum resistivity values. The resistivity testing uses a 1888-11 Resistivity Test Cell in combination with a precision 1888 Megohmmeter/High Resistance Meter The 1888 Megohmmeter/High Resistance Meter with a basic accuracy of 0.35% and direct readout of volume and surface resistivity was designed for this purpose.

Test Sample Resistivity Measurements
The 1888 Megohmmeter/High Resistance Meter can be used for measuring the resistivity of test samples as described by ASTM Standard D 257, which describes in detail the techniques for both surface and volume resistivity measurements. The 1888 Megohmmeter/High Resistance Meter in combination with the 1888-11 Resistivity Test Cell is shown in Figure 3-1. This combination makes a simple and easy to use solution for most volume and surface resistivity measurements.
A sample of the material is placed between two electrodes in the cell, the megohmmeter is then used to measure the resistance, at a specific applied voltage, after 60 seconds. The volume resistivity or surface resistivity is then calculated from the measured resistance using a simple formula.
A similar measurement setup can be used for testing materials in accordance with AATCC 76-2000 for electrical surface resistivity of fabrics and ESD S11.11 for elelctrostatic planar materials. The IET 1888 Megohmmeter/High Resistance Meter and 1888-11 Resistivity Test Cell can be combined to make a complete system for measurement of volume and surface resistivity. This combination is used by a number of respected companies and test laboratories for this application. The 1888 can easily be programmed to apply the required voltage to the material and display the resistivity after 60 seconds.
